The winners of the Kube Design Competition for Griffith College Interior Architecture students have been announced. Kube is also delighted to offer internships to the three Interior Architecture student winners.

Kube collaborated with the Interior Architecture Faculty at Griffith College on a real-life design and fitout proposal for their showroom at Beacon South Quarter, Dublin. Interior Architecture students were tasked with blending creativity, practicality and an understanding of user experience to design a showroom which immerses customers into a captivating journey.

“We briefed the students on the challenges around designing a space that showcases our kitchens, inspires customers with the latest design ideas but also makes it a comfortable, enjoyable and informative experience. We were really impressed with what these young people created. They incorporated our requirements into their designs but also came up with fresh, innovative ideas that we will definitely take on board” said Pat McGrath, Managing Director, Kube.

Jana Ayman, Skaiste Janusauskaite and Aaron McGrath were announced as winners of the Kube Design Competition and are all being awarded internships at the kitchen company.

Jana’s design concept derived from Kube interior branding and logo design focusing on cubes. Cubes were created as functional, flexible layouts for displaying the different kitchen designs. Clear zoning was set out in the showroom but the cubes were versatile making them easy to interchange displays. Jana incorporated a striking orange theme throughout which worked well with the neutral contemporary kitchens in the Kube showroom.

Skaiste’s design was inspired by natural stone and metal of the Bronze Age. These elements were incorporated in an urban and industrial style .

Aaron drew from the industrial past and history of brickmaking in Sandyford for his project. Each kitchen was displayed in shipping container-style units and he merged elements of natural brick with an industrial feel incorporating concrete, perforated steel, plaster and glass. Persian rugs and low comfortable seating softened the look.

“We are delighted to offer three students internships with our company where they will get excellent experience in all aspects of kitchen design. This was the second time we ran the design competition with Griffith College. It worked out really well last year with the students getting great experience and one now being employed full-time as a designer at Kube. We look forward to continuing this partnership with the Interior Architecture & Design Faculty where we can collaborate on many interesting projects” added Pat McGrath.

Britt Berentzen, Programme Director of Interior Architecture & Design at Griffith College was really pleased to be approached by Kube “It is great when the students can be offered the opportunity to work on a real life project. They immersed themselves in the brief and learnt so much from the experience. Jana, Skaiste and Aaron are so lucky to have the opportunity now to work for one of Ireland’s leading kitchen companies, they have bright futures ahead. I look forward to working with Kube on many similar projects going forward”.

Kube is working on plans to refurbish the Beacon South Quarter and incorporate the winning designs. Jana, Skaiste and Aaron will commence their internships at Kube over the Summer months.
