Gill and Steve walked into Kube Kitchens with a clear idea of what they wanted for their new kitchen. They wanted a kitchen that would make a statement, but would also be understated and not overpower the open space that also included living and dining areas. It was also crucial that the kitchen function at a high level without looking serviceable. When they met Noreen Pierce in Kube's Sandyford showroom, they came prepared with images of designs and finishes that conveyed an idea of what they wanted. Noreen knew how to turn the kitchen of their dreams into a reality.

From the hundreds of styles and finishes available from Kube, Noreen was able to narrow down the selection. She showed them suitable options that would help them achieve the look they wanted. A handleless design in Flame Scarfed Oak, from the Artwood line, was chosen. To enhance the dramatic look of this kitchen, a black handle track was added. A feature splashback was selected to help the kitchen stand out.

A custom-designed, chunky worktop with an extended overhang in Silestone Calacatta Gold was devised for the kitchen island and fitted by Miller Brothers Stone. This unique worktop was built with internal reinforcement so that support was not needed at the end, increasing the flexibility of seating arrangements and fitting with the open flow of the living space.

A Miele induction hob with downdraft extraction is located on the kitchen island as well. The built- in extractor eliminates the need for a noisy overhead extractor fan which opens up lines of sight to the other areas in the open-plan space.

The sink, prep, and clean up areas are located towards the back of the kitchen, keeping them from direct view. The sink is equipped with a Quooker instant hot water tap, freeing up counter space where a kettle would usually be.

In the tall presses at the rear of the kitchen are a suite of Neff ovens, an integrated coffee maker and a larder refrigerator. A glass-fronted wine cabinet from Liebherr also sits in the cabinet run, complementing both the appearance and convenience of the kitchen.

We designed a bespoke pantry with matching open-shelving in Flame Scarfed Oak to match the kitchen presses. This subtle but effective area for dry and cold storage helps to keep clutter out of the main living space. It is also designed to be a secondary prep zone and is perfect for messier tasks.
